Breast Cancer Awareness Artwork

Among
the most recent of Ellie's works are her Breast Cancer Awareness
pieces. Burke describes her work. "Currently I am using the Italian
style of filigranna stems in my goblets to increase the visual
fragility. In both the goblets and pins I am using female figures and
torsos as a form of biography. The Breast Cancer Awareness
goblet or pin is built of glass that has been fumed with 24K gold leaf
to produce a watercolor-like pink. For the goblets and one version of
the pin this glass is then shaped into a woman's torso. In place of
one breast is a pink ribbon. This is my tribute to all the brave,
precious, vulnerable women who I met since 1995 while battling the
disease." |
